Hitman Anders and the Meaning of It All

3 stars

Hitman Anders, recently out of prison, is doing small jobs for the big gangsters. Then his life takes an unexpected turn when he meets a female Protestant vicar (who also happens to be an atheist), and a homeless receptionist at a former brothel which is now a one-star hotel. The three join forces and concoct an unusual business plan based on Hitman Anders’ skills and his fearsome reputation. The vicar and receptionist will organize jobs for a group of gangsters, and will attract customers using the tabloids’ love of lurid headlines.
The perfect plan—if it weren’t for Hitman Anders’ curiosity about the meaning of it all. In conversations with the vicar, he turns to Jesus and, against all odds, Jesus answers him! The vicar can’t believe what’s happening. When Hitman Anders turns to religion, the lucrative business is in danger, and the vicar and the receptionist have to find a new plan, quick.

This book has a lot of hilarious situations. Hitman Anders is a criminal with a violent background. He is living in an hotel and the receptionist Per Persson is having decent contact with him. When Per meets Johanna Kjellander and brings her back to the hotel. Together they start to exploit Hitman Anders his potential to place hits on other criminals. Their goal obviously is to get rich.
Johanna Kjellander is a priest but she does not believe. She just became a priest because it was expected by her abusive father. Even though she does not believe she still throws parts of the bible around. Hitman Anders is intrigued by this religious comments eventually turning religious himself though not exactly for the right reasons. The one situations is even more ridiculous than the next. For a very long time the story stays entertaining but eventually it got tiring and to much. Still it did need all that time to come to a satisfying end.
I liked Hitman Anders, despite being a rough guy he sounded simple and honest in a way. Per was a character that never became clear to me. I am not sure how much of what was happening was his doing or not. Johanna needs some serious help. She annoyed me most. The way both she and Per abused Hitman Anders without wondering what they were doing amazed me.
